FLAMEN•CO-OPERATIVA

or how I join a flamenco circle

In these lessons, we practice how we join a flamenco circle, as it is completed through polyrhythmia (African root of flamenco) and "polyphony". Synchronization is achieved by the combination of many different patterns that complement each other and the constant cooperation of those who participate, having the freedom to alternate the ways they interact while following the flow.

We practice: dancing/baile • singing/cante • clapping/palmas • exclamations/jaleos (equally important and absolutely necessary) • cooperation of all the above.

The lessons reproduce the collectivity of the flamenco circle, where each member has its own voice, is important, equal and supported by the other members of the group.

They are open to dancers regardless of skill level, beginners and advanced who are interested in discovering the codes of flamenco, develop management skills and want to coexist within a group. They are also open to musicians involved in or interested in flamenco, to dance teachers and aficionados.

ABOUT YIOTA PEKLARI

Yiota Peklari is a dancer and choreographer with an extremely diverse vocabulary that explores the acoustic dimension of the moving body. She is a graduate of the Professional Dance School of Rallou Manou, creator of the international Coetáni Experimental Flamenco Festival and co-founder of the cultural organisation PLAYGROUND for the arts.

Her relationship with flamenco is dialectical and has often led her, beyond the traditional, to experimental paths. As a dance teacher, her broad field of study (classical and contemporary dance, flamenco and body music) and her long experience, combined with her endless curiosity and creativity, pushed her to create her own teaching methods, leading developments in the field of flamenco in Greece.
